MJCC Cultural Arts Department proudly presents
The Last Night of Ballyhoo by Alfred Uhry
Auditions: September 1 • 6pm
Auditions are open to the public.
Callbacks: September 2 • 6pm
Callbacks will be by invite only.
Performances: November 12–15
Seeking performers who present as ages 20–55. Auditions will be cold reads from the script. For a perusal script or more information, contact Jonathan McCarter at theatre@jccmemphis.org or (901) 259-9248.
Rehearsal and Performance Information:
Rehearsal Schedule to be finalized based on casting. Rehearsal is slated to begin September 15. Most rehearsals will be Monday-Thursday, 6:00-9:00pm. A Sunday rehearsal is possible.
About the play:
1997 Tony Winner for Best Play, The Last Night of Ballyhoo is set in 1939 Atlanta, Georgia. The story centers on the Freitag’s, a family of elitist German Jews and their thoughts and feelings about Ballyhoo, the local social event of the season. As they prepare and pontificate Gone with the Wind is premiering down the street and Hitler’s is invading Poland as close or as far away as that may feel based on relations.
The Last Night of Ballyhoo is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Dramatists Play Service.

Screening of the film October 8
The Memphis Jewish Community Center will screen October 8 and provide a safe space to process the film. This film centers on a well-crafted examination of the impact of the October 7th attack and its ripple effect even onto the college campuses of the United States.
