Teen Weight Lifting Class
The MJCC Wellness Center has exciting news! Raheem Shabazz, former Ohio State football player and AFAA certified Personal Trainer, is teaching a teen weightlifting class called Team Shabazz.
Just like playing sports well, proper weight lifting is a skill that must be learned. Many teens have never been exposed to a regimented weight lifting plan. As a result, these teens end up with preventable injuries when they try lifting weights on their own.
Done properly, weight lifting can improve sports performance, increase self confidence and, most importantly, help teens develop a lifelong habit of healthy exercise.
Raheem has years of experience working with teens in a fitness setting and is ready to help our teen members develop weight lifting habits that will stick with them for a lifetime. He will concentrate on proper form, how to decide how much weight to use, exercise prescriptions and muscle group awareness. Class participants can reserve a spot in class by calling the Sports and Fitness Desk up to 24 hours before the class session. Drop in participants will be awarded space in class on a first come, first serve basis.
Team Shabazz is open to all teen members (athletes and non-athletes) 12-18 years old. As of May 2012, Team Shabazz meets on Sundays, 4:30-5:30pm, Mondays 5:15-6:00pm & Wednesdays 5:15-6:30pm and is $15 per class. Specialty Class punch cards can be bought at the Front Desk in 6 and 10 class increments. If you buy a 10 class punch card, you get one class for free! Some class sessions will take place on the fields and will concentrate mostly on agility, speed and body weight movements. Other class sessions will meet in the Wellness Center.
Don’t let your teen be the last one to join this amazing class!
