During the Three Weeks (a period of mourning recalling the destruction of the Jewish Temples which our Rabbis teach was a consequence of needless Jewish infighting) the MJCC Ahavat Achim (Brotherly Love) Challenge seeks to build bridges, strengthen existing bonds, and make a bold statement of our mutual caring and interdependence.
To MJCC Members (view membership challenge letter):
We encourage you to apply your creativity toward enhancing feelings of warmth and interconnectedness among our diverse community, and to share your stories when you are the beneficiary of unexpected positive actions. When kindness happens, please take a minute to record it, and post it to our MJCC Wall of Kindness.
To Jewish Agencies (view organizational challenge letter):
On an agency level, we challenge area Jewish organizations to participate in a Secret Agency Gift Exchange (SAGE). Community SAGE's will draw names (distributed at the beginning of the Three Weeks), and perform kindness toward their designated organization throughout the Three Weeks. While no organization needs to expend money (creativity can go a long way to helping others feel loved and appreciated), we ask everyone to keep to a firm $100 cap on total expenses for the program. We will publicly reveal the Secret Agencies and share their contributions on Tu B’Av – the Jewish holiday of love and rebirth – which falls on July 27th.
