Policies & Registration
The MJCC School of Dance has been carefully planned to provide each student quality instruction in a warm and creative environment. Emphasis will be placed on the development of technique and musicality while improving coordination, confidence, discipline, perseverance, grace and poise allowing each student to complete the program with the feeling of personal success.
Important information is published in the JCC Scene, posted on the website and on the Markell School of Dance bulletin board outside the dance studio and e-mailed to you. Please make sure you notify us of changes in address or e-mail. We need your updated e-mail address!
Please call MJCC to find out if we have Dance class on that day.
In order to progress at a student’s best rate, regular attendance is very important. Students must come to class on time, dressed in class uniform and ready to dance. 80% attendance or better is required for participation in the Spring Dance Performances. Lack of consistent training and proper warm-up at the beginning of class can cause injuries. Students over 10 minutes late for class will be asked to sit and observe. Students may be excused from class due to illness, injury, graduation of family member, funerals of close relatives, and college visits. If a student is sick or unable to attend class, they, or a parent, must contact the Dance Director at 901.761.0810. or firstname.lastname@example.org. Make sure to include the student’s name, class level, and reason for absence in the message to the Dance Director.
The MJCC School of Dance offers classes in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, and hip-hop. Classes are open for members and non-members and listed on the dance page. Register online or at the MJCC front desk. Early registration is recommended, as class size is limited. A minimum is required. Students desiring registration after the start of the semester must consult MJCC Dance Director.
Enrollment in the School of Dance is on a semester or session basis. Tuition is payable at the time of registration and must be paid prior to attending classes. Registration is always open. In order to register late, a meeting must be arranged with the Director of the School of Dance, Jenni Nettleton, at 901.761.0810 or email@example.com to discuss possible tuition adjustments and appropriate class placement. There are NO REFUNDS after the semester has begun.
Markell School of Dance Spring Recital
Costume measurements will be taken the first week of dance classes so that costumes can be ordered in January. Typically, it takes two months for costume orders to be completed and delivered. Therefore, it is necessary for the MSOD to take measurements as early in the spring semester as possible.
Please note that technical rehearsals will be necessary for all classes performing in the recital. The rehearsal schedule will be announced in mid-March. The time of the recital will be announced later in the spring semester.
Recital Program Ads
Be on the lookout in March for the opportunity to purchase Program Ads. This is a great way for parents, family members, and friends to show support for a specific dancer, an entire dance class, a dance instructor, and/or the Markell School of Dance. For businesses interested in placing ads in the recital program, please contact the Jenni Nettleton, Markell School of Dance Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
