Summer Camp FAQ

Early Childhood Camp Staff
Staff members are selected based upon their experience (both personal and educational), training, and desire to work with young children.  Our staff members help each child acquire knowledge, build self-esteem, and learn problem-solving skills.  They also make sure that the campers have fun while building the social and emotional foundations needed for success in a changing world.  Summer Camp Specialists on staff include Sports, Israeli Culture, Art and Music.  The Specialists work with the Early Childhood Camp Director to ensure a developmentally appropriate experience for each age group.

Camp Hours
A full day of camp begins at 9:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm.  There is a half-day option for our youngest campers, Pitzel, from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm.  As an added convenience parents can register their children for AM and/or PM Care.  AM Care begins at 7:30 am, while PM Care begins at 4:00 pm and ends at 6:00 pm.  AM and PM Care (for ECC Campers) meet in the Multipurpose Room, off of the ECC Lobby.  PM Care is NOT available for our half-day campers.

Potty Training
ALL CAMPERS must be fully potty trained to attend camp.

Lunch/Snacks
Campers must bring a lunch every day.  Lunches are stored in our air-conditioned camp rooms in your child’s cubby. We do not have access to a microwave.  We provide a morning snack and an afternoon snack to our full day campers.  The morning snack is dairy while the afternoon snack is pareve.  We also provide milk with the morning snack and lemonade and water with lunch and the afternoon snack.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up
All ECC campers MUST be signed in at their camp room by a parent or guardian, and all ECC campers MUST be signed out from their camp room by a parent or guardian. Pitzel half-day campers will be ready for pick-up beginning at 12:45 pm and full day campers will be ready for pick-up at 3:45 pm each day. Camp rooms will open at 8:45 am for morning drop-off.

Swim
All campers get to experience the fun and excitement of the MJCC Family Water Park: Pitzel Campers have daily free swim in the Splash Pad and Toddler Swimming Pool; K’tonton and Maleh Campers have daily instructional swim in the mornings and free swim in the afternoons.  Our four and five-year old campers enjoy their first group swim experience taught by our highly trained aquatics instructors in a positive and safe environment. New campers’ swim abilities and comfort level are assessed within the first few days of each session and they are placed into Red Cross Learn to Swim instructional groups based upon the results. The aquatics instructors understand that children may have some reservations about swimming, and they work hard to provide a nurturing atmosphere where campers can feel safe to learn new skills and find their own comfort level in the pool. There is constant communication between the swim instructors, the Aquatics Director, the ECC counselors and the ECC Camp Director throughout the entire eight weeks of camp.

Rest Time
ECC Camp provides an age-appropriate rest time every day for our campers. Pitzel campers rest from 1:30pm-3:00pm while K’tonton and Maleh campers have an hour of rest time scheduled into their day.
